The Drake equation

Named for its creator, astrophysicist Frank Drake, the Drake equation is an attempt to estimate N, the number of advanced civilisations in the Milky Way galaxy. Many of the numbers that go into the Drake equation can only be guessed at, for example, the factor L, the average lifetime of an advanced civilisation.

According to Drake, the average of people's best estimates suggests that there are about 10,000 technically advanced civilisations spread across our galaxy... Read More>>>

Carl Sagan told us that there are more stars in the universe than there are grains of sand on all of the Earth's beaches. At the same time, there are more H2O molecules in just 10 drops of water than there are stars. Ranging from the unimaginably small to the unimaginably big, the scale of the universe is mind-boggling. Watch to try to wrap your head around it.

The Fermi Paradox II — Solutions and Ideas – Where Are All The Aliens?

Where are all the aliens?

The universe is too big and too old, why have we not met aliens yet?

 Do they live in computers?

Were they wiped out by an ancient super intelligence?

Or are we just to primitive to understand their motives?

Whatever the answer is, it is incredibly important for our own future.

The universe is unbelievably big – trillions of stars and even more planets.

Soo… there just has to be life out there, right?

But where is it?

Why don’t we see any aliens?

Where are they?

And more importantly, what does this tell us about our own fate in this gigantic and scary universe? Videos, explaining things. Like evolution, time, space, global energy or our existence in this strange universe. We are a team of designers, journalists and musicians who want to make science look beautiful. Because it is beautiful.

The Immeasurable Universe, Our home supercluster... Laniakea!

Thanks to the recent work of a team of researchers at the University of Hawaii, we now have an even better of idea of just how tiny our little lives are in the big picture of the universe. In fact, as a new model for mapping the movement of galaxies has revealed, the cluster of galaxies that is home to planet earth may be around 100 times bigger than previously thought... Superclusters– regions of space that are densely packed with galaxies – are the biggest structures in the Universe. But scientists have struggled to define exactly where one supercluster ends and another begins.

Now, a team based in Hawaii has come up with a new technique that maps the Universe according to the flow of galaxies across space. Redrawing the boundaries of the cosmic map, they redefine our home supercluster and name it Laniakea, which means ‘immeasurable heaven’ in Hawaiian.

The Singularity Is Near Movie Trailer, A True Story About the Future...

The onset of the 21st Century will be an era in which the very nature of what it means to be human will be both enriched and challenged as our species breaks the shackles of its genetic legacy and achieves inconceivable heights of intelligence, material progress, and longevity.

While the social and philosophical ramifications of these changes will be profound, and the threats they pose considerable, celebrated futurist Ray Kurzweil presents a view of the coming age that is both a dramatic culmination of centuries of technological ingenuity and a genuinely inspiring vision of our ultimate destiny...
